Created for the (2023) Game Mockup jam by Hairic Lilred. You can find it here: https://itch.io/jam/game-mockup-jam
This is not a full or functional game. This is just a mock up for the game jam. Hopefully I have provided enough materials to have someone else to take the ball and run with it.
While I would like some credit, which is why this project is CC-BY, I very much invite anyone to add legs to this project. I do not need to be involved, and ideally, you should give whatever you make its own identity. I'll try to stop by to see if anyone has questions, but itch.io is, unfortunately, not a platform I check every day. But multiple people can have their own takes.
ROLLING START:
Just to get things started, you should try to tamp down the rules. Also, as one amateur game designer to another, you will want to playtest over and over throughout development to get a feel for the consequences of your rules.
PRINTING:
As a preface, you should lock down your card frames first before doing any serious printing.
The easiest way to get cards to playtest with is to draw on pieces of paper, cut them out, then understand everyone has public information.
A less messy way is to use dry erase tokens.
The easiest way to get physical cards with better presentation in your hands is to have regular trading cards, already have sleeves in hand, then print your cards so they fit in the sleeves on top of the front face of the card you are using.
I went to a local FedEx store and got my cards printed on 8.5" x 11" card stock, then cut the cards out. If you do this, you won't have to stick cards in the sleeves before hand, just make sure you get opaque sleeves. Also, heads up, as of 2022, FedEx has a new policy that you will be charged a $2.50 service fee for anything under a certain amount. It's not terrible, I just didn't want you to be surprised. Also, since I only printed 3 pages, I was basically in and out under 10 minutes.
There are plenty of sites that will print / manufacture your cards. Search for "custom trading card game" in your favorite search engine. You will have multiple options.
